Playing
How do I play?
Each round, you and your rival plan three actions in secret: Move one tile, Dash two tiles, Shield your tile or Shove a rival on an adjacent tile one tile farther. Lock your plan, then both plans reveal together, one step at a time. End the round on a gold beacon to score a point. The first player to five points wins. If both players reach five in the same round, the duel is a draw. Tap the question mark in the game for the full rules.
What is the difference between offline and online play?
Offline practice is a duel against a bot on your iPhone. It needs no account and no connection, and it saves on your iPhone.
Online play pairs you with another person. Choose Find a rival for a casual duel, create or join an open duel, invite a friend with an invitation code, or play a ranked duel for a rating and a place on the leaderboard. Casual, open and friend duels don’t change your rating. Online play needs an internet connection and a real opponent: there are no bots online.
Your online profile
Can I change my player name?
No. Player names are permanent and public. Other players see your name in duels, results and the leaderboard. Don’t use your real name or anything personal.
Do I need an account?
Offline practice needs no account. Online play requires Sign in with Apple, with no separate email or password. The first time, you sign in and choose a permanent player name. We never ask Apple for your name or email.
How do I play on another iPhone?
Sign in with the same Apple Account on the other iPhone and confirm the profile Markahead shows you. Your player name, rating and results come with you.
How long does a session last?
Up to 24 hours. After that, or if you stop using Sign in with Apple for Markahead in Settings, the app asks you to sign in again. Your profile is kept. Sign out on the Account screen ends the session on that iPhone without deleting anything.
How do I delete my online profile?
In the app, open Online play from the ••• menu, tap Account at the top, then choose Delete online profile. Deletion is immediate and permanent. Waiting duels are cancelled, duels in progress are resigned, and your name is replaced with “Deleted Player”. Offline practice is not affected. The privacy policy explains what we retain so other players’ results stay fair.
I can’t open my profile any more. Can you delete it?
Yes. Email hello@markahead.com with the profile’s exact player name and its player ID from the Account screen. Because player IDs are visible to other players, we delete by email only a profile that hasn’t started a duel in the last 14 days, and we may ask for more detail. Once we can confirm the request, we delete the profile within 30 days of your email and tell you when it’s done.
Connection problems
What happens if the servers are offline?
The app tells you that the servers are offline and keeps checking while the screen is open. Your saved moves are kept, but the duel’s timer keeps running on the server, so reconnect as soon as you can. Offline practice still works.
